Wolves reign supreme at OAA Championship meet

LAKE ORION — The Clarkston Boys Track and Field team won the OAA Red-White Championship meet on Friday at Lake Orion High School.
The boys finished in first place with 96 points while claiming three league championship titles in the 800-meter run by sophomore Wendell Childs, the 1,600-meter relay and the 3,200-meter relay.
Teams earned points and medals finishing in the top eight place in the individual track and field events.
Earning points in the track events for the Wolves were: in the 200-meter dash, senior Gabe Van Goor in seventh place in the time of 23.55; 800-meter run, Childs, first, 1:53.12; senior Joshua Ellingsworth, fourth, 1:56.66; 1,600-meter run, senior Jaxson Nowik, fourth, 4:23.27; junior Ryan Barnes, sixth, 4:28.11; 3,200-meter run, senior Cayden DeGrendel, third, 9:38.96; junior David Dubeck, fourth, 9:49.92; 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Malachi Switzer, fifth, 15.77; and 300-meter hurdles, Switzer, seventh, 42.77.
Earning points in the field events were: in the shot put, senior Benjamin Ankrom in second place with the distance of 47-10; discus, Ankrom, fifth, 125-07; long jump, junior Cameron Love, third, 19-09; and junior Lukas Boman, seventh, 19-0.25.
The top four relay teams received medals. The team of Van Goor, Childs, junior Hank Hornung and senior Micah Chaney finished in first place in the time of 3:20.86. The team of DeGrendel, Ellingsworth, Nowik and Childs finished in first place in the 3,200-meter relay in the time of 8:03.37.
Chaney, Hornung, Van Goor and senior Pierce Peruski finished in second place in the 400-meter relay, 42.93; and the team of Chaney, Boman, Hornung and Van Goor finished in third place in the 800-meter relay, 1:30.02.
Troy finished in second place with 90 points; Troy Athens, third, 82.5; Rochester, fourth, 73; Lake Orion, fifth, 60.5; Rochester Adams and Stoney Creek, tied at sixth, 60; Bloomfield Hills, eighth, 46; Oxford, ninth, 25; Royal Oak, tenth, 23.5; and Avondale, 11th, 6.5.
The Clarkston Girls Track and Field team tied for fifth place with 64 points with sophomore Allison Thurman finishing as league champion in all three of her events.
Earning points and medals in the track events finishing in the top eight were: in the 100-meter dash, junior Emma Garner in eighth place in the time of 13.33; 100-meter wheelchair adaptive, Thurman, first, 29.30; 200-meter dash, senior Scarlett Keenan, sixth, 26.96; 200-meter wheelchair adaptive, Thurman, 1:27.76; 400-meter wheelchair adaptive, Thurman, first, 3:03.90; 800-meter run, sophomore Avery DeGrendel, fifth, 2:20; 1,600-meter run, sophomore Addison Brigham, fifth, 5:29.25; 100-meter junior Caitlin Poterek, third, 15.13; 300-meter hurdles, Poterek, second, 46.87; and junior Skylar Drinkard, sixth, 48.95.
Earning points in the field events were: in the shot put, sophomore Aydia Bartz in fourth place with a distance of 32-01; high jump, freshman Lucy Dubeck, fourth, 4-11; and junior Elliana Radke, seventh, 4-09.
The team of Poterek, Drinkard, Garner and Keenan finished in second place in the 400-meter relay in the time of 50.55.
The team of Drinkard, Garner, Keenan and senior Lily Prainito finished in third place in the 800-meter relay, 1:47.01; and the team of Poterek, DeGrendel, Drinkard and sophomore Riley Jurand finished in fourth place in the 1,600-meter relay, 4:08.89.
Rochester finished in first place in the 124 points; Lake Orion, second, 80.33; Rochester Adams, third, 71.33; Royal Oak, fourth, 70; Troy Athens tied for fifth, 64; Oxford, seventh, 50; Troy, eighth, 41.33; Stoney Creek, ninth, 41; and Bloomfield Hills, tenth, 16.
The Wolves competed in the Bill Breen JV Invitational at Troy High School on Wednesday.
They head to the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 1 Track and Field Regional 9 meet at Milford High School on Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
