Work continues on Gregg’s

Clarkston residents are still missing the signature pizza special from Gregg’s Gourmet Café, which was damaged in a fire next door in May. Owner Jeff Ryeson said renovations are taking longer than originally expected.
“It’s just a slow process, but we’re coming back,” he explained. “By the end of September, hopefully.”
Ryeson says the hold-up is mostly due to delays with insurance. The insurance company has to approve every decision, which makes everything take around three times longer than it would with a private company, he added.
“We’re getting closer, I’m hoping in another month or so we should be close to opening, but it’s hard to say,” Ryeson said.
In the meantime, Gregg’s is still doing catering out of Ryeson’s Lapeer restaurant, E.G. Nicks. Gregg’s will also be at Taste of Clarkston on Oct. 1.
“Hopefully we’ll be open by then, that’s my goal,” Ryeson said. “The biggest thing is just to reinforce the fact that yes, we are reopening.”
