9-11 Memorial Run raises $6,500

For the sixth straight year, hundreds of leather-clad bikers thundered into downtown Oxford to remember the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and raise money for charity.
At least 250 motorcycles participated in the 6th Annual 9-11 Memorial Run Sunday raising approximately $6,500 for Operation Care Package Michigan and The Billy Lake Underpriviledged Children’s Fund.
Operation Care Package Michigan is a Lapeer-based group that supports U.S. troops serving overseas by sending letters and care packages. The Billy Lake Underpriviledged Children’s Fund is named for a 44-year-old New York City firefighter who died in the attack on the World Trade Center.
Bikers paid $25 each to go on what’s known as a poker run which took them from Oxford through Lapeer, Fostoria, Almont and back to Oxford. At each stop, the bikers collected a playing card, the goal being to come up with the best poker hand.
Pete Bologna, of Roseville, won first place in the poker run with a full house.
