Dressed in their best Native American garb and paper feathers, first graders at Daniel Axford Elementary spent Tuesday morning singing songs, performing poems and stuffing their bellies at their annual Pow Wow.
Teachers even got into the spirit by dressing up. ‘Big Chief? Brad Bigelow’s elaborate headpiece was the talk of the tribes.
Students from each class got the chance to sing songs, like about the Pilgrims and how they got along with the Native Americans, and even about eating that yummy Thanksgiving Turkey. One class even used sign language as they sang a song.
Dancing to a traditional Native American beat, the teachers taught the students, and some parents, how to do a little dance through the halls and into the cafeteria.
Topping off the Pow Wow was a feast anyone would be thankful for. Apple juice, cornbread, popcorn and other foods graced the long tables.
