Lake Orion High School has become known for its success on the fields, courts and courses, with many talented athletes leading the way.
But there is, perhaps, no greater accomplishment for a high school athlete than turning that talent into an education at the next level.
Before last week’s basketball game against Rochester Adams, LOHS hosted a ‘mock signing day,? with a number athletes in various sports participating.
‘It’s great to see their hard work and commitment pay off,? Head Football Coach Chris Bell said.
Bell had five players participate in the event, and said one more player, kicker Dylan Van Fossen, is still weighing his options.
Josh Allison will head to Central Michigan, Aaron Allen is off to Michigan Tech, David Wurst accepted a partial track and football scholarship offer from Penn, Shaun Vernon will be a deferred walk-on at Western Michigan and Chase Goff will get some scholarship money from Division III Adrian College.
‘It’s a great number,? Bell said. ‘It was a very talented group.?
Allison, an All-State defensive lineman for the Dragons, had given a verbal commitment to Minnesota prior to the season. But changes in the Minnesota coaching staff forced Allison to re-evaluate and he ultimately chose CMU.
‘I think it’s a better fit,? Bell said. ‘He and his family both like the fact that it’s closer and that they’ll be able to see him play.?
The football squad wasn’t the only team represented in large fashion at the signing ceremony. Ken Snage had four players on his girls? soccer squad in attendance.
Two players, Jenna Hill and Ashley Shugar netted athletic scholarships.
Also on hand were Britney Hamilton (golf), Ricky Forrest (swimming) and Ryan King (Saginaw Valley).
Athletic Director Bill Reiss said even more scholarships are likely for the talented class of 2007.
