Phone scam update

Law enforcement officials in Addison Township still need your help in finding out who’s been calling seniors claiming to be a representative from a retirement home and wanting to deliver suspicious coupons.
Sgt. Pete Burkett, of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Addison substation, said he’s had numerous calls from residents who received the same phone call, and that he wants senior citizens to take their caution a step further.
‘I want to let people know that if they have been contacted by these individuals, they better make sure they run a credit history check,? he said. ‘And I want to make sure they contact the Oakland County Clerk’s office in Pontiac to check if there’s been any unauthorized activity on their home or property.?
Burkett stressed that sometimes scammers can get just enough information from a telephone call where they are able to put a lien on a home or property.
‘Right now, I don’t really have a crime and I don’t have anything to investigate,? he said. ‘I really don’t want there to be a crime (committed).?
To contact the Oakland County Clerk, call (248) 858-0582, or call Sgt. Pete Burkett at (248) 628-3600.
