The State Board of Education announced last week that Blanche Sims Elementary was one of 23 schools across Michigan being awarded a Blue Ribbon for excellence in education.
Blanche Sims joins seven other schools in the Lake Orion Community Schools that have previously been recognized as Blue Ribbon Exemplary Schools.
The Michigan Department of Education began its participation in the Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Program in 1982, as a way to identify outstanding public and private schools throughout the state.
Schools are selected based on their effectiveness in meeting rigorous state education goals.
To ensure a fair and equal selection system, elementary and secondary schools compete separately on alternate years. Elementary schools were eligible for the award during the 2006-2007 school year.
Blanche Sims will be formally recognized at a Blue Ribbon awards ceremony to take place in April. Look for more coverage in The Lake Orion Review.
