Concert Band on stage this Sunday

The North Oakland Concert Band, with guest conductor Dr. Gregory Cunningham, will be performing their winter concert on Sunday, March 4th, at 3 p.m. at the Lake Orion High School Performing Arts Center.
The musical program will include a variety of styles, from a Sousa march to contemporary band repertoire.
Selections include ‘Fandango? by Frank Perkins, ‘Russlan and Ludmilla Overture? by Michael Glinka, ‘Portrait of a City? by Philip Sparke, ‘O Magnum Mysterium? by Morten Lauridsen, and ‘Blue Shades? by Frank Ticheli.
The North Oakland Concert Band is pleased to welcome Dr. Cunningham as guest conductor for this concert. He is currently in his tenth year as Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Oakland University.
At Oakland, Dr. Cunningham conducts the Wind Symphony, co-directs the Symphonic Band, and teaches conducting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to his university teaching duties, he is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Pontiac Oakland Symphony.
Dr. Cunningham has appeared as guest conductor with various honor bands and orchestras throughout the Midwest. He is an active clinician and adjudicator of high school orchestras/bands throughout the United States.
Led by Annette Kline, Music Director and Conductor, the North Oakland Concert Band is one of the premier community bands in the Midwest. The band recently appeared, by invitation, at the Red Cedar Band Festival in Okemos, Michigan on Feb. 24.
The next local concert by the North Oakland Concert Band will be on Saturday, May 5, at Christ the Redeemer Church, followed by a concert in the Orion Township Park on June 12.
The North Oakland Concert Band has been making music for 28 years. The current ensemble was established in the mid 1990s when the Orion-Oxford and Rochester Community Bands merged.
The NOCB’s members represent a diverse mixture of professions and backgrounds, including many music education professionals. The membership roster boasts of more than 80 volunteer musicians from the northern metro Detroit area.
Concert admission is free, but donations to the band’s operating fund are appreciated.
