The Orion/Oxford Boys & Girls Club held their ninth annual Taste of the Town at Canterbury Castle last Saturday, raising around $7,500 for the club.
Club Director Tim Dougan said the event will help offset operating costs of the club, which recently relocated to the old Gingellville Community Center on Waldon Road.
A live and silent auction, along with a sampling of food from a variety of area restaurants highlighted the evening.
‘The auction itself raised about $5,600,? Dougan noted.
Dougan estimated that about 150 people attended the event, but was still calculating how much money they raised at press time.
‘We’re looking at increasing our attendance next year,? he said, noting that numbers were up from years past, but a long-term goal of having 200 attendees still exists.
Over 60 items were featured in the two auctions, with front row Red Wings tickets, the biggest prize, taking in a bid of $475.
Restaurants involved included Metamora Golf & Country Club, Buffalo Wild Wings, Canterbury Castle, Hamlin Pub North, Starbucks, Lombardo’s, Paparazzi, Sagebrush Cantina, Hoops Sports & Spirits, Postive Vibration Wine Bar, Montana’s Cookhouse, Applebee’s, Steve’s Pizzeria and More!, Costco Wholesale, Towers? Treats and Olive Garden.
‘We got a lot of compliments on the food that was served,? Dougan said.
