Township seeking input on parks plan

The Orion Township Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee have begun the process of updating the 5-Year Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan for the township.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources requires every community and/or agency to have a 5-Year Plan on file in order to be eligible to receive funding assistance for park improvements.
The Master Plan will include a community description, an overview of the administrative structure of the township, an inventory of existing facilities, a basis for action, recommended goals, guidelines and capital improvements for the next five years, and concept plans and design guidelines for the township parks.
In order to gather input from the community, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee are holding a public workshop.
They want to know what needs to be improved at the parks, where you’d like to see additional trails and safety paths, what programs you’d like to see offered, and where new facilities should be located. A free lunch is included.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Orion Township Hall (2525 Joslyn Road).
If you cannot attend the workshop, but would like to provide input, please e-mail Rock Blanchard, Parks and Recreation Director, at rblanchard@oriontownship.org, or call (248)391-0304 ext. 134.
