A header in the closing seconds helped Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Central upend Lake Orion 1-0 in the championship game of the fourth annual Dragon Invitational.
Janelle Benoit redirected a shot into the back of the net with just 1.2 seconds remaining to break the tie.
Benoit is a senoir captain on a Hackett team that has won five consecutive Division 4 state titles.
‘Both teams had chances throughout the game,? Dragon Coach Ken Snage said. ‘Hackett made good on a free kick that was headed away from goal, and redirected it into the goal.?
The Dragons, who got a pair of victories earlier in the day, fell to 2-2 overall with the heartbreaking loss.
Earlier in the tournament, Lake Orion topped Flint Powers 1-0 and Ann Arbor Greenhills 5-0.
Rachael Israel and Kelsey Hopper each scored a pair of goals on the day for the Dragons.
