Over 25 people spoke during the township board’s ‘Brief Public Comment? session at Monday night’s meeting on the Pine Island Marina issue, which has been ongoing since 2004.
The issue was on the board’s agenda, but not during the portion of the meeting that was open to the public.
‘It’s one of those issues we can’t talk about,? Township Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said, noting the board has given direction to the township attorney in executive session.
‘It’s not that we’re trying to hide anything from the citizens,? he added.
The township and former State Senator Mat Dunaskiss both have pending litigation in the matter, which was first reported in The Review two summers ago.
‘The township’s position is that we’ve been trying to work with Mr. Dunaskiss for about a year-and-a-half and it’s only because he hasn’t cooperated that we’ve taken him to court,? Dywasuk said.
People on both sides of the issue spoke at Monday’s meeting.
‘The people that are for the marina, very few of them live on the lake,? Dywasuk said, noting that there are about 800 homes surrounding Lake Orion.
Dywasuk said he hopes the matter will be resolved in the next couple of weeks.
‘But I thought the same thing a year ago,? he noted.
