Remember when the local barbershop used to be a community meeting place? A place where friends gathered and stories were shared?
The Baldwin Barbershop is trying to recreate that atmosphere.
The store, operated by Bud Stott and Connie Skidmore, is located at the corner of Baldwin and Judah Roads. They have been open for just two months, after relocating from down the road, and are already becoming a popular destination.
‘We like the cozy atmosphere of it,? Skidmore said of the building. ‘Half the fun is the interaction with our customers.?
‘This is originally a 1930s Montgomery Ward kit home,? noted Stott, adding that the floors and fireplace are still original.
The traditional ‘waiting area? is more of a gathering place, and the open area allows for Bud, Connie and all of the customers to interact.
‘One customer said it kind of reminds him of a lodge,? Skidmore said.
When it’s time to get down to business, customers are in good hands at the Baldwin Barbershop, as Bud and Connie have a combined 60 years in experience, most of those years in the area, too.
‘I’ve been in the area for 27 years and Connie’s been here for 10 years,? Stott noted.
‘We have some loyal customers,? Skidmore added. ‘We didn’t expect to be doing this well this soon.?
The store is handicapped accessible and accepts Visa and MasterCard.
They are open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., but will also take after-hours appointments.
‘We will always accommodate someone’s needs after-hours,? Stott said, adding that no appointments are necessary during regular business hours.
The pair specializes in cutting all types of hair, offering all the amenities of a traditional barbershop.
