It’s been a busy month at the Orion Township Public Library.
In addition to working hard at promoting their expansion proposal for the May 8 vote, last week the library was packed because of Spring Break in the schools.
And this week, they are in the midst of celebrating ‘National Library Week.?
As part of the celebration, library visitors are certain to notice the new logo throughout the building.
The logo was actually unveiled during last fall’s 80th Anniversary celebration and has been popping up more and more on name tags and library cards ever since.
‘The logo is a key to getting people’s attention and making them aware of all that we do,? Library Director Linda Sickles said. ‘When someone sees the logo, they’ll know immediately where it comes from and what it represents.?
The new logo includes an image of a lake and the sun behind it, with the words ‘The Library of Orion Township,? across the middle.
It replaces an old logo that Sickles said was a good one, but only showed a representation of the library building itself.
‘We wanted an image that would reflect the library as an integral part of the community,? Sickles said.
‘We think it’s a very upbeat, positive image,? she added, ‘to hopefully represent a very upbeat, positive library experience.?
The new logo was developed as part of the library’s strategic planning last year, but Sickles said it’s not related to the upcoming ballot issue.
‘It’s not directly connected, other than that it’s a symbol for the library,? she said.
Sickles added that she hopes the new logo will remind people of everything the library offers, including their great online resources.
‘We’re more than just books. We’re more than just videos,? Sickles noted. ‘We are a place of interaction in the community.?
The library is also starting a new campaign involving digital photos of local ‘celebrities.?
The photos will be blown up and put on posters across the township as Orion’s own version of the well-known ‘Read? posters.
‘It’s something we can put up all over town to show how important reading is,? Sickles said, saying township and village officials will be featured along with library and school personalities.
‘I think the students will get a big charge out of the poster with (LOHS Principal) Todd Dunckley,? she said.
To date, Sickles said everyone involved has liked the idea of the posters and taking part in the campaign.
‘They liked to be connected to the library and associated with reading,? she noted, saying it’s all part of promoting literacy in the area.
‘We want Orion to remain a community of excellence.?
