Meeting the challenge

The boys had a busy week as they faced league foes and a tournament.
‘It was a solid week overall,? said Boys Varsity Tennis Head Coach Chaz Claus.
They took fourth place at the Van Dyke Invitational in Romeo on Saturday.
Richmond, University of Detroit-Jesuit, and Rochester finished in the top three places.
‘We did pretty well,? said Claus. ‘Not where we wanted to be, but we won two-thirds of our matches. I would like to compliment Scott Dutcher. He won his flight and had the best performance of the day.?
The boys began their week on Monday, Sept. 22 against Rochester Adams and were shut-out, 9-0.
Claus scheduled the match for the boys because he knew Adams was a quality team and it would give the Wolves a chance to compete against them.
The team traveled to Lake Orion and defeated them, 5-4.
Davis VanderVeen, Scott Dutcher, and Jonas Vogler won their sets.
Doubles team Zach Comos and Kramer Kamp won both of their sets, while Bob Bice and Kevin Wieryszko played three sets to win their match.
‘They pulled out of a late tight match,? said Claus.
The Wolves lost to Rochester, 6-3.
The three top seeded singles were able to score points for Clarkston. Matthew Graczyk defeated Alex Sibert (6-0, 6-0), VanderVeen defeated Jordan Yeller (6-3, 6-4), and Dutcher beat Arthur Lee (7-5, 6-3).
‘It went reasonably well,? said Claus. ‘We saw them on Saturday and won in some of the flights we had lost to them.?
Eisenhower is a quality opponent,? said Claus before the meet on Monday.
They won, 5-3.
The boys host the OAA league meet this Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. If it rains, the meet will take place on Friday.
