Martians wrestlers ready to defend state crown

It was a season to remember.
Goodrich High School battled their way to Division 3 State Champion’now Head Coach Matt Turnbow said it’s time to go back to work.
The Martians completed their first wrestling practice of the season last week and, with the transition of fall to winter sports already in effect, Turnbow was happy with how the first practice went.
‘Surprisingly, the team was in very good shape. Come time for conditioning, they were all where they needed to be for their weight classes,? said Turnbow.
Wrestler Kyler Elsworth is ready to take another shot at a state championship.
‘The seniors last year were key to the team,? said Elsworth. ‘However, after the first practice it was evident that a lot of guys were willing to step it up to achieve our goal of being state champs two years in a row.?
With such high expectations and big shoes to fill, Turnbow isn’t putting any negative pressure on his team. He emphasizes that last year’s team made history; this is a new team now, there are new faces, and pressure will be felt to fulfill such a big goal once again. He believes that if the team does their best daily and pushes themselves as hard as they can, then they soon will have the same great team chemistry that the wrestlers had last year. The philosophy that Goodrich has used and will use to achieve their goal this season is simple: Outwork their opponents and get better on a daily basis.
Goodrich will have their first competition at home at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, against Clarkston and Grand Blanc.
