The Goodrich School District posted an enrollment decline following the Feb.10 district-wide count. The count was delayed one day from Feb.9, due to a snow day.
The enrollment declined by 20 students to 2,114 students with the high school losing six students, the middle school three, Oaktree Elementary down four and Reid dipping seven students.
The drop in enrollment will mean about $35,000 less in revenue.
‘Our kindergarten classes are dropping in enrollement,? said Goodrich Superintendent John Fazer. ‘That’s an indication some of the younger residents are leaving the area. We’ll try to track to some extent and see why students have left.?
Fazer said the decline is perhaps due to losses of jobs and residents just moving on to find work.
By comparison, the Goodrich student enrollment increased by 54 students to 2,214 in the February 2009 count.
A blended count works by taking two student counts, one in September and another in February of the next year. Funds are decided based on a 75-25 percent formula, with 75 percent of the next school year’s money coming in based on September count and the remainder based upon the count done in February.
