Kickers turning the tide

It’s been a bizarre season for Coach Ken Snage’s girls? soccer squad. The team has missed anywhere from six to nine regulars in their line-up the whole year.
But the Dragons might have turned the corner with their toughest week to date, recording a pair of ties against some stiff competition, which included #2 Rochester.
‘That shows our potential,? Snage said of the 0-0 draw last Thursday, which included 15 saves by freshman keeper Hailey Redd.
‘She’s done a great job for us,? the coach said of Redd, who took over the duties in net for good after All-State keeper Ashley Shugar broke a bone in her foot.
The Dragons fell 2-1 at home to rival Adams two days prior to the Rochester game and played host Grand Blanc to a 2-all tie over the weekend.
Jenna Hill scored the lone Lake Orion goal versus Adams, while Niki Read and Ashley Poirier each scored against Grand Blanc, as the Dragons erased a 2-0 halftime deficit.
Snage praised the play of Kaitlin Denton, Rachael Israel and Shannon Doyle as well.
‘The good thing is that everyone is getting good minutes,? Snage said. His team sits at 4-7-4 on the year and is hoping to make noise in district play with a full roster.
‘Hopefully, we’ll mesh at the end,? he said. ‘We will be battle-tested and we’ll be more ready because of what we’ve been through.?
The Dragons travel to Plymouth on Saturday and host Clarkston (Monday), Stoney Creek (Tuesday) and Troy (Thursday) next week.
The varsity start time against Stoney Creek has been changed from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate senior awards at the high school.
