Redhawks oust Martians in second round district

A perfect season ended for the No. 3 Martians (10-0) on Nov.8 when the unranked Marshall Redhawks (6-3) rallied from a 14-0 deficit to add a blemish to a great season.
With a game time temperature of 39 degrees Saturday afternoon and a strong Redhawks crowd who purchased 1,000 tickets, the Martians opened the game similarly to the past 10 wins.
Within the first four minutes of the first quarter, Martian Jake Bourassa caught a pass and took off down the field, scoring the first touchdown of the game, and Reece Kurdyla kicked the extra point. Minutes later, still in the first quarter, Bourassa and Kurdyla added an additional 7 points, leading Marshall 14-0.
‘We started off really happy,? said Kyler Elsworth. ‘We had every reason to be excited after getting the first two touchdowns within minutes of the game starting.?
The excitement faded quickly after Bourassa fumbled, leading to Marshall’s first touchdown, ending the first quarter 14-7, Goodrich. ‘I feel like they stepped up their game and played a little harder than we did,? commented Blake Hudak on Marshall’s performance. The second quarter brought Marshall up one touchdown, and although the Martians kept working into the third quarter to defend their undefeated record, Marshall scored their third touchdown, leading the Martians 24-14. The fourth quarter dragged on without any touchdowns or field goals, and the game ended 24-14 Marshall. ‘We had a good season and this loss shouldn’t change our spirits on the great season we had,? said Elsworth.
