Boggs excited to take on role of Dolly

Oakland Township resident Alison Boggs will play the title role in the award winning musical Hello, Dolly! as performed by the Spotlight Players, the resident adult theater company at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill in Canton.
The show will play Sept. 19-20, 26-28 and Oct. 3-5, with Friday-Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
‘Dolly is a feel good show,? Boggs said. ‘With all the challenges we have in life these days it’s so encouraging to have the gift of theater to take us away from it all to a better time and place even if it’s just for a few hours.?
This is the first time Boggs has taken on the role of Dolly, though she’s no stranger to the stage.
‘I have been acting since high school, which was many years ago,? she said.
This will be Boggs? third show with the Spotlight Players, and she’s been rehearsing three times a week.
She works for AT&T in Southfield and has acted with other groups across Metro Detroit, since moving to Michigan five years ago.
Her daughter is a seventh grader at St. Joseph School in Lake Orion.
Boggs said the trip to Canton is worth it just to see the unique Village Theater at Cherry Hill.
‘It’s absolutely a beautiful theatre,? she noted.
Those familiar with Hello, Dolly! will enjoy the Spotlight Players? take on the production, Boggs noted.
The musical comedy tells the story of a gregarious widower and matchmaker, Dolly Gallagher Levi, who creates a stir wherever she goes. While conducting her match making, she also secretly harbors designs on one of her customers for herself.’The entertaining and heart-warming story takes place in New York City and Yonkers, NY, at the turn of the 20th Century.
‘I think Dolly is a fun, good-hearted person, Boggs said. ‘She has spent the years since her husband’s death living her life to fulfill other people’s wishes, but the time comes that she realizes it’s time for her to start living life again to the fullest. And in enjoying her own life, she can continue to help others.?
