Just before 2 p.m. on January 2, officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the Accurate Firearms Gun Range, located at 6559 Dixie Highway, for the report of a male shooting victim.
Upon the officers arriving, paramedics from ITFD were administering life-saving measures to the victim, a 34-year-old Rochester man. Paramedics from ITFD transported the victim to McLaren Oakland Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Video of the incident was reviewed.
The victim rented a handgun and while on the range turned the gun on himself in an apparent suicide.
Detectives and an investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on the scene and began their investigations.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
