Report: Safer in Springfield

As Americans grapple with a sharp spike in murders over the last year, they may be wondering where they can go to feel safe.
The safety and home security website SafeWise decided to look into it.
The report “The 100 Safest Small Towns in America for 2021” from SafeWise that was released last month found that Springfield Township is the 75th safest small town in the country.
To rank the safest small towns in the United States, SafeWise analyzed the latest available violent and property crime data from the FBI.
Towns with populations greater than 15,000 people and fewer than 5,000 people were excluded.
Springfield Township joins the list for the first time this year due to its remarkably low crime rates.
The town has a violent crime rate of 0.3 incidents per 1,000 residents, and a property crime rate of 2.6 incidents per 1,000 residents.
There were just five violent crimes and 38 property crimes total reported for Springfield Township, according to the latest FBI data.
One murder occurred in the township, back on September 3, 2020 when Vincent Scott Merrill killed his live-in girlfriend in the 9200 block of Cherrywood Road (“Murder in Springfield Township,” The Clarkston News, September 9, 2020).
