Officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to Sturbridge Lane the evening of October 25 for the report of an apparent suicide.
The caller told the Sheriff’s Operation Center that her husband, a 73-year-old man from Clarkston, had shot himself.
Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject lying on his side near a wooded area. The caller was lying next to him and had to be separated the from the victim.
Deputies observed an apparent gunshot wound to the victim’s head and could find no signs of life.
The caller, the deceased’s wife, stated that she got into a verbal argument with her husband about wanting to sell their residence due to his health. She stepped away from the residence briefly to cool down.
Shortly after, she heard a gunshot. She went upstairs and found the gun safe open. She then went outside and discovered her husband lying on the ground near the woods.
The Independence Township Fire Department provided telemetry to an attending physician at McLaren Clarkston who pronounced the subject dead.
A detective arrived on the scene and began their investigation. An investigator from the Medical Examiner’s Office also arrived to begin their investigation.
The Medical Examiner took custody of the body with an autopsy is scheduled.
The incident remains under investigation.
