State Rep. Andrea Schroeder stopped by The Clarkston News office on Monday to present a State of Michigan Special Tribute to James A. Sherman Jr., in honor of his father, the late James A. Sherman, Sr.
The tribute was signed by Schroeder, state representative for the 43rd District, state Rep. John Reilly, 46th District, and state Sen. Rosemary Bayer, 12th District, to recognize Sherman, Sr.’s contributions to the community as publisher of The Clarkston News and other Sherman Publications, and his World War II service with the U.S. Navy.
The visit marks Schroeder’s return to duty after recovery from surgery.
She underwent a procedure on March 14 to remove a cancerous growth in her stomach discovered during a routine test.
“I can’t wait to get back to Lansing,” said Schroeder, who represents Clarkston and Independence Township, as well as part of Waterford Township and Lake Angelus. “It’s better every day and I’m finally getting back into it. We have so much to do.”
She is expected to make a full recovery.
“The diagnosis was a shock and I’m grateful they caught it when they did and treatment was available,” she said. “My excellent doctors have assured me I can successfully take care of both my health and my responsibilities in Lansing. I want to remind everyone, screening and early detection saves lives. I expect to remain cancer-free through monitoring.”
