Goodrich – Dr. Wayne Domenick doesn’t claim to cure disease, but says many seeking his care get relief from their suffering.
Bundled together to form the spinal cord, nerves are like a garden hose, says Domenick, of Back to Health Chiropractic in Goodrich.
Pinch off those nerves and there’ll be trouble.
Like bony doughnuts, the spine’s vertebrae stack up in a column around the spinal cord, flexible enough to bend, but always intended to return to its specific curved shape.Tiny openings in the column allow smaller nerves to branch off into every part of the body.
Minor misalignments in the spine, called subluxations, can affect the nerves and their function in every part of the body to which they radiate.
In the patient room’a room painted in relaxing colors and art where patients fill out paperwork, Domenick discusses the effects of an adjustment on bodily function.
‘Problems in the spinal cord cause decreased function. When you free up the nerve it allows the nerves to flow properly,? he said.
Patients at Back to Health Chiropractic also receive a massage from certified massage therapist Mary Pelletier, M.T.
Massage therapy isn’t automatic with many chiropractors, but after realigning the spine and nerves, a massage trains the muscles to help hold them in place, Domenick says. The underlying cause of ailments is Domenick’s focus.
He credits regular
adjustments for a flawless 10-year personal health record in which he’s not taken even an aspirin.
‘I go back to asking, ‘I have a headache, but why?? There’s an underlying cause, it’s not because my body is lacking aspirin.?
While many think of chiropractic adjustments for back and neck pain, patients also receive relief from burning and aching, arm and leg pain and numbness, migraines and headaches, sinusitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, disc injuries, chronic fatigue, hip pain, sports injuries, stiffness, sciatic pain, and whiplash.
Misalignments can occur from injury, jarring the spine through activity, and many types of stress, including environmental or seasonal changes.
‘I see people who had a car accident 40 years ago that don’t realize the spine in their neck is now straight instead of a nice curve,? said Domenick.
Many patients also find a pre-workout adjustment helps their muscles ‘fire better.?
Domenick’s subluxation-based chiropractic practice shares the basic philosophy of the World Chiropractic Alliance (see www.worldchiropracticalliance.org) and the International ChiropractorsAssociation (see www.chiropractic.org/chiroinfo/index.htm).
According to the ICA site, ‘Chiropractic care is non-invasive, therefore, the body’s response to chiropractic care is far more predictable than its reactions to drug treatments or surgical procedures.
‘Of the nearly one million adjustments given every day in this country,
complications are exceedingly rare.?
It was his own relief from chiropractic adjustments that inspired Domenick to get into the field.
Thanks to his high school football team chiropractor, Domenick started feeling much better than before.
Later, after a basketball injury severely fractured two vertebrae in his neck, Domenick wasn’t recovering, not even after surgery to pin an essential piece of the vertebrae back in place. After getting a chiropractor friend to adjust his lower and mid-spine, Domenick could again walk and move his arm, he said.
Domenick graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, the top chiropractic school in the nation.
Chiropractic adjustments, intended to complement rather than compete with traditional medicine, are appropriate for all ages from pregnant mothers and newborns to the elderly, says Domenick.

‘I’m very dedicated to my patients, and they know that,? Domenick said. ‘I care about what goes on in their lives and that they get better.?
