Brandon girls swimmers drop meet to Swartz Creek-Flushing

Brandon’s varsity girls swimming team couldn’t overcome a strong start by the combined Swartz Creek/Flushing team Oct. 19.
The host Blackhawks dropped the meet 118-65, as Swartz Creek/Flushing took first place in 10 of 12 events at the meet.
Senior Jessica Kennedy earned one of Brandon’s two victories, as she edged teammate Amanda Dixon, also a senior, for the win in the 200 yard individual medley. Kennedy finished the race in 2:46.92, while Dixon was right behind at 2:47.14.
The two Brandon swimmers also finished 1-2 in the girls 100 yard butterfly, with Jessica Kennedy finishing in 1:15.49 and Dixon in 1:18.05.
In individual competition, the following Blackhawks earned second place finishes: junior Kelly Kennedy (200 yard freestyle, 2:19.22, and 100 yard freestyle, 1:05.15); freshman Alex Lindsay (50 yard freestyle, 30.82); freshman Stephanie Peck (500 yard freestyle, 6:28.47); junior Aubree King (100 yard backstroke, 1:19.63); and junior Jessica Swineford (100 yard breaststroke, 1:27.27).
The Brandon 200 yard medley relay team of Dixon, Swineford, Jessica Kennedy and junior Marisa Westphall finished second in a time of 2:20.60, while Brandon’s 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relay teams also earned a second place finish.
