Brandon Twp.- A 21-year-old township man died Monday night after losing control of his motorcycle on Hadley Road.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, Jacob Thomas Siggins was traveling southbound on Hadley Road on a 2004 Honda CBR 600RR at 10:54 p.m., Aug. 3 as he entered a curve near Sawmill Lake Road, went off the road and struck a tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While Siggins was wearing a helmet, his speed was estimated to have been between 80 to 90 mph, said Sgt. Greg Glover. Alcohol was also a factor, according to the report.
Glover said the type of motorcycle Siggins was riding, commonly referred to as a ‘crotch rocket,? continues to be a problem in the township with many complaints of speeding motorcycles of this type. ‘The younger crowd gravitates to these? they’re very powerful machines,? said Glover. ‘From gravel roads to asphalt? there are potholes and cracks. Traveling at those speeds, it’s inevitable that sooner or later something will happen. We don’t have wide shoulders on the roads and if you make a mistake there is no helmet that will save you.?
‘You can’t travel at those speeds anywhere in this area? if a deer or dog runs out in the road, you can’t correct and there are blind spots. Make a mistake and it could be your life.?
