Like the dual match one day earlier, the Oakland County tournament at Pontiac Country Club April 24 was another stepping stone for Clarkston’s girls golf team. The Wolves finished eighth, in the middle of the 17-team field. Clarkston (389 strokes) didn’t finish far from the next two closest competitors, Rochester Adams (385) and Birmingham Marian (381).
‘I was pleased with the way we came out,? Clarkston coach Larry Sherrill said.
‘We were right in the middle, a couple strokes out of fourth or fifth place.?
Minjoo Lee led the Wolves with a round of 88, eight shots above her average.
‘It was a little more than she averages, but things like that happen,? Sherrill said.
‘They were really happy with that and so am I. It’s going to get better each time we go out.?
Ashley Blanc carded a 96, and Jennifer Fuller (98) and Christine Seiple (107) each shot their personal best rounds.
Clarkston continued its regular season one day before the tournament against Birmingham Seaholm at Oakhurst Golf Club. The Maples won 185-206. Lee led the Wolves with a round of 38, Blanc 55, Seiple 56 and Fuller shot 77.
‘I was encouraged, we played a lot better than the match before,? Sherrill said.
?(Minjoo) was real consistent. She didn’t make any mistakes, and that’s how her game is. She plays really smart and prepares herself for each shot.?
Sherrill said the team’s practices these days are about the mental part of the game. The Wolves work on fixing mental mistakes such as course management, club selection and shot preparation, which will save the Wolves strokes come tee- time.
‘I see us getting better every day and that’s what you strive for every day, improvement,? Sherrill said.
