East gives cold shoulder to Oxford

Cold weather and a slightly nervous team brought the Oxford Varsity Soccer Team their third loss in the Flint Metro League.
On Oct. 4, the Cats were defeated by Lapeer East 1-0.
‘The Wildcats came into tonight’s game a little flat and unsure of how they’d play in their first game in the cold,? said Coach John Thaler. ‘Oxford controlled the ball for a majority of the game, but could not place many shots on goal.?
Oxford was able to hold the score at zero by the end of the first half, but by 20 minutes left on the clock, East was able to pull ahead by one. The Eagles would have gone up another goal, but were stopped by sophomore Erik Anderson who cleared the ball off the line.
‘East just made the Wildcats play their game which frustrated Oxford,? said Thaler. ‘This game was a reality check to the whole team who realized we need to play more as a team than we have in the past.?
The Wildcats played their second round against Brandon on Oct. 6 and then prepared to travel on Oct. 9, the only away game in the second half of the season, against tough competitor Richmond.
