Goodrich girls runners dominate league

Goodrich’s girls cross country team reasserted its dominance of the Genesee Area Conference.
The Martians placed five out of the first six runners at the meet on their way to winning the meet with 16 points, and clinched the GAC title for the sixth straight year, finishing with an 8-0 dual meet record and 32 points.
In addition, the Martians placed six out of the seven runners on the All-GAC first team, and added one more on the all-league second team. The top seven runners at the meet make the all league first team, while those placing eighth-14th made the second team and those placing 15th-21st the third team.
Senior Janee Jones added another feather in her cap by winning the meet in 17:43, a personal best time and the second time this year she has finished under 18 minutes. Earlier this year, Jones won the Crim Festival of Races 5K race in 17:46.
Kaitlin O’Mara finished second at the league meet, finishing in 18:54. Kayla O’Mara followed in third (19:02), while Kelsey Krych placed fourth (19:18) and Kelsey Meyers sixth (19:30) to round out the Goodrich scoring.
Also competing for the Martians were Mary Haiderer (seventh, 19:47) and Sam Minkler (10th, 20:49).
The Martian boys team also wound up their season on a positive note, finishing third at the league meet with 67 points. Lake Fenton won the meet with 57 points, while New Lothrop took second, earning 67 points and defeating Goodrich on a tiebreaker.
Goodrich finished the year among the top teams in the GAC, placing third in the league behind Lake Fenton and New Lothrop. The Martians finished with a 6-2 dual meet record in the league.
Jeremy Phan earned first team all-league honors for the Martians, finishing fifth in the meet with a time of 17:32.2. Zac Glynn and Jeremy Gauthier made second team all-league finishing 11th (19:01.7) and 12th (19:06.8), respectively.
Ryan Warner made the honorable mention all-league team for Goodrich, finishing 19th (19:33.7).
