Jim Ingram was known around town as a chronicler of Lake Orion history and a collector of antiques.
While most of the photos and other materials related to his historical research have been donated to the Orion library, the general public will have the opportunity to take a crack at some of the antiques.
Items from Ingram’s private estate will be on auction at noon, June 28, at 7640 Holcomb Road in Clarkston.
‘This auction should be special because of his items,? said Paul Sadows of Sadows Auction Galleries, the company putting on the event.
Many of Ingram’s antiques came from Europe. Sadows said the most exciting items in the collection are a 19th century French porcelain vanity box and a 19th century French tobacco caddy with a cigar cutter.
‘I’ve been doing this since 1970, and I’ve never seen one of these,? Sadows said about the cigar cutter. ‘You’re never going to see one of these again. These are true collector items.?
Paul Baily, Ingram’s attorney, said the auction was necessary to settle the estate.
‘The historical items all went to the library,? Baily said.
The library is planning a special display of the items in its local historical room, according to Baily. After Ingram’s estate is settled, whatever money is left will also go to the library.
‘Jim was also a collector of art. They’ve all got to be sold,? Baily said.
Ingram’s remaining family no longer live in the area.
‘They wanted a few personal things,? Baily said, adding it wasn’t practical for the large amount of collectibles to be transported.
