Sharing can be a difficult task to ask of a child, except as the holidays approach and those same children continuously share lists of favorite gift ideas.
Independence Township Parks and Recreation is offering them an opportunity to share those wishes with Santa Claus himself at the Liberty Golf Club on Dec. 1-2.
Parks and recreation has sponsored the event in past years as a brunch with Santa in the park.
Children will be able to sing songs, make crafts, decorate cookies and have their picture taken with him. Kids will also be able to share their wishes with Santa, who will reply to their letters after mealtime.
The new format employed by ITPR this year features three separated sessions for children to visit with St. Nick. Times are planned for a brunch and two separate dinner sessions.
The Dec. 1 session is open for dinner from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 2 brunch is from 12-2 p.m. while dinner is from 6-8 p.m. The Dec. 1 time will also have Christmas caroling.
Tickets must be purchased in advance from the Parks and Recreation Department at 90 North Main Street or via telephone at (248) 625-8223. The prices for residents are: youth, $8, and adults, $12, while the non-resident cost is $11 for youths and $15 for adults.
Lisa Sargent, recreation coordinator for ITPR, said this year’s event will be modeled after previous brunches. It should be better because families can pick different times to visit with Santa, and the site offers the space to bring in more children and adults.
‘We’re excited to serve more people,? Sargent said.
‘So far we’ve had a good response.?
Making the occasion special for participants is key to the event, Sargent said.
‘It’s something they don’t get to do all the time and we’re trying to make it special.?
The occasion serves as a way for Liberty to help the community, said Owner and General Manager Anthony Bashore.
‘I like it because it’s a great way for Liberty to give back to the community,? he said.
‘It’s very important to us’here we get so much, we like to give back.?
Sargent said the brunch session’s tickets were selling well, and Bashore said plans on Liberty’s end were going well.
‘All the plans are coming together nicely, we should be in good shape.?
