Heading into the homestretch of the season, Brandon’s girls basketball team lost Nov. 2 against a non-conference opponent.
The visiting Blackhawks were routed by Waterford Mott, a member of Oakland Activities Association Division II, in a 52-34 contest. The loss dropped Brandon to 6-11 overall.
Brandon hung tough with the Captains for a quarter, with Mott holding a slim 12-11 lead after the first quarter. However, the Captains outscored the Blackhawks 22-12 in the second and third quarters to take command of the game.
Sophomore Savannah Stedman led all scorers with 21 points for Brandon. Christie Carrico scored 18 points while Kaitlin Lang added 15 for Mott (10-7).
The Blackhawks once again came up on the short end of a close contest, losing 29-28 against Linden Oct. 26, losing ground in the Flint Metro League race. Brandon fell to 5-4 in the league, while Linden improved to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the league.
The Eagles and Blackhawks battled in a typical low scoring and tightly contested Flint Metro game, with Linden maintaining a 10-8 lead at the end of the first.
Both teams combined for less than 10 points in the second quarter, with Linden outscoring the Blackhawks 6-3 to take a 16-11 lead at the half.
The Blackhawks made a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Linden 9-4 in the third to tie the contest at 20 at the end of the period.
However, the Eagles just had a little more gas in the tank left than the Blackhawks, pulling out the win in the fourth.
Brooke Schaefer led the Blackhawks with seven points, while Jessica Jennings, Stedman, and Emma Donnay scored five points apiece.
