Woodward Avenue, eat your heart out.
Classic cars of all types come to Orion Township this weekend, with the Senior Center’s annual Classic Car Show and the annual Scripps Days: Art, Autos & Architecture, the premier weekend event at the famed mansion.
The Classic Car Show will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 13), with a flag raising ceremony to start at 10 a.m.
The event will be held at Golling Pontiac-GMC, located at 1491 S. Lapeer Road. The show is free to the public and 100 trophies will be handed out, starting at 3 p.m.
Throughout the day, some popular local mascots will be on-hand, as well as athletes offering some autographs, including Red Wings great Ted Lindsay and 1984 Tigers World Series pitcher Dave Rozema.
Donations benefiting the Orion Senior Center will be accepted. Many local organizations and businesses, including some eateries, are scheduled to appear and offer some of their goods.
‘This community event has become bigger and bigger and we are looking forward to having an exciting day,? said organizer Bill Kokoenos.
Meanwhile, the public is invited to the mansion on both Saturday and Sunday.
‘The Saturday evening gala is our premier event, but there’s so much going on the whole weekend,? said Kathy Schiffer, special events director for Guest House.
Saturday features guided tours during the day and the ‘Sunset at the Estate? benefit dinner at night.
The grounds are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with plenty on display, and admission is $5 (children 11 & under and Friends of the William E. Scripps Estate are free).
