Imagine sitting on your couch early one Sunday morning when the front door ‘explodes? open at the hands of a man with an ‘extensive and violent? criminal history, who begins scouring your residence and yelling for an unknown woman.
That’s the scene that played out not once, but twice, around 6:50 a.m., March 7, say Lake Orion police.
Officers arrested 46-year-old Gregory Earl Hall for home invasion after he allegedly burst into one occupied and one unoccupied apartment on North Shore Drive.
That morning, Lake Orion Police Department received a 911 call from a 53-year-old female resident in the 100 block of North Shore. The caller was screaming that an unknown male had just kicked in her front door and had entered her apartment and then walked out, but is still in the area, said the report.
Two minutes after the 911 call, Officer Christopher Mires arrived on the scene, as the alleged intruder ? described as a large bald man wearing a gray jacket ? returned to the woman’s apartment. Upon sight of Ofc. Mires, Hall took off running. Police captured and subdued the man with pepper spray after he resisted arrest.
‘Ofc. Mires almost immediate arrival time to the home was crucial in apprehending this individual. One of the most dangerous and frightening calls for help is that of an intruder inside an occupied home,? said Narsh.
Hall told officers he was looking for an old girlfriend — the woman he was yelling for — and that he must have received bad information as to her location. Hall has been residing in the area since December as a guest of a family member.
‘The victim told police she was in fear of her life when he broke in, and again when she saw the subject returning to her apartment just as the officer pulled up and made the arrest,? said Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh. ‘The victim did not know the offender and was terrified of what else he may do?
The victim stated she was on her living room couch when her ‘front door exploded? and a large unknown male subject entered her home, yelling at her about a female subject he was looking for, as the intruder was yelling he was searching the victims home, room by room.
After the intruder walked out of the victim’s apartment, he kicked in the front door of an unoccupied residential apartment next door.
The victim said she’s lived in the apartment for some time and had no idea who the female subject is that the intruder was searching for.
Hall has a criminal history dating back to 1987 and includes larceny, assault with dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of police property, firearms discharge in or at a building, felony malicious destruction of property and escaping from jail through violence, including assault of a prison employee.
Hall was arraigned on March 9 on two counts of third degree home invasion, which is a felony, punishable by five years in prison and/or a $2,000 fine. Hall is currently in the Oakland County Jail on $50,000.00 cash / surety bond.
His next scheduled court appearance will be a pre-exam conference set for Friday, March 19.
