Dear Editor,
Instead of taking a well-deserved break, Representative Elissa Slotkin offered her services, and even volunteered husband Dave Moore, to help gather sap recently for a couple hours with constituents in Independence Township.
Because weather and nature have the last word on when sap will run, we didn’t gather much, unless you count the seven of us who sat indoors around a comfortable country table with Elissa and Dave.
No work in the woods, but we did get considerable edification about how Congress works. And we got that from the point of view of a mission-driven representative who entered the House with deep, strong and long experience and a clear-eyed perspective from her previous U.S. government posts.
So some of Clarkston’s self-proclaimed Monday Morning Coffee Geezers learned a lot on a range of topics.
To sum up the single over-riding take-away, Representative Elissa Slotkin has accomplished more in two months than her predecessor did in his excruciatingly long and barren tenure.
Just to cite one specific that has already been lauded by her colleagues and by astute political observers and commentators of both parties: the Amendment offered by Elissa Slotkin on the election reform bill.
Voters of this district elected Elissa Slotkin to Congress in great part because they were convinced that her strong public service background, her character, and her work ethic would do what she promised during the campaign: to get things done for her constituents in Michigan’s 8th District and for the country.
