Investigation continues into a sewer leak into Spring Lake, discovered April 24.
‘Someone dumped big rocks and sand into the sewage system,? said Independence Township Department of Public Works Director Linda Richardson. ‘Big rocks and sand did not come through the toilet. They came from somewhere else.?
The leak was reported by a resident at 7:40 a.m., April 24. DPW workers responded to the area and lifted a manhole, causing the rock and dirt blockage to break free.
Workers then followed the seeping sewage along a safety path and into a grassy area near the lake….
