Snow days at nature center

After several days off school this past week, kids were getting cabin fever. Several parents got kids out of the house by bringing them to Wint Nature Center at Independence Oaks County Park.
Troop leaders Kate Weaver, Jade Chawasz, and Elise Bunker signed up their troop for one of the many scout badge days offered at Wint Nature Center, Jan. 19. The three-hour session covered each of the five steps to earn their pottery badge. The scouts made pinch pots and wall hangings out of air dry clay.
On Feb. 2, naturalists Lynette Schinke, Raejean Heiser, and Mary Blumka ran a Winter Survival Mini Camp for kids ages 9 and up. Campers learned how to make a shelter, navigate winter terrain, build a fire, and other survival skills at this event. Each child also made and took home a survival bracelet made of paracord.
Wint Nature Center offers several badge days throughout the year for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
