Softball team starts off slow with 1-5 record

The Wildcat Softball team has had a slow start to their 2004 season – the ladies went into their spring break with a 1-5 record.
On April 3, junior pitcher Amber Cervantez was on mound for seven innings when the ladies lost 3-6. Junior Jessica Anhel went three for three, with two doubles. She had two RBIs, but was only able to score one run. Senior Shannon Gerbe scored two runs after going one for three.
Game two saw an improvement in the Wildcat offense, but errors at the bottom of the fourth gave the Dragons four runs and the 5-7 victory. First year varsity player Anne Marie Skylis went three for four, earning three runs total. Megan Bono stepped up with one run after hitting two for four; and Anhel was again on target going two for two with two RBIs and two walks. Losing pitcher Bono stood the mound for seven innings allowing only seven hits.
On April 5, the Wildcats split against Davison, earning their first win of the season in the second game.
‘We should have won both games,? said Roeher. ‘It’s nice to get that first win, but we still have room for improvement.?
The ladies lost in game one 4-7. Once again, errors plagued the Wildcats. Davison scored all seven runs on Oxford errors. Cerantez again held the mound for a decent seven innings that included only nine hits.
Top hitter Anhel had a remarkable day at the plate with one triple and a home run that shot over the fence. She went three for four, had two RBIs and scored three runs in the game.
In game two, Anhel returned to hit her second grand slam in as many games. At the top of the first, Gerbe stood on second with Skylis on first when Anhel hit the plate. The catcher drove a long ball over the fence and brought all three in to make the score 3-0.
Anhel finished the game one for four, with two runs scored and three RBIs. Gerbe went three for three, scored three runs and had one RBI. Skylis finished the game two for four, with two runs scored and also one RBI.
The Lady Wildcats don’t return to the home mound until April 19, after spring break, when they face off against Grand Blanc.
