Brandon Twp.- The school board selected four candidates for superintendent during a special meeting on Jan. 31.
In December, at a cost of $17,500 the board approved the Grand Rapids area-based T.D. & Associates to replace current superintendent Bart Jenniches who announced his exit after nine years last summer. A new superintendent should be in place by Feb. 22. Jenniches last day is July 1, 2005.
A total of 37 candidates made inquiries regarding the superintendent position since the opening was posted by T.D & Associates in January. The four candidates were selected by the school board during the Jan. 31 meeting from a group of 22 applicants.
In addition to the candidates selection, the board also approved public interview times from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Feb. 5 in the Brandon School District Board room, 1025 S. Ortonville Road.
The Saturday interview date was established said Beth Nuccio, school board president due to several reasons including health issues of a board member, the mid-winter break of candidates and current work scheduals of board members.
‘The Saturday interview schedules time is not intended to exclude anyone from attending or asking questions,? said Nuccio. ‘It’s (the time) better for one of our board members who recently suffered a brain injury to meet during the day rather than week-night interviews.?
In addition Nuccio said the board will also visit the candidate’s school district and many of the schools may be in mid-winter break in February.
‘We need to expedite the selection and visit the district when students are there’not in the middle of winter break. The interview time is for the benefit of everybody, to me it’s even better than during the week. It’s the boards responsibility to make that decison to the best of our ability. We were elected to do this job.?
Candidates for Brandon supeintendent scheduled for interviews on Feb. 5.
