Just after 8:30 p.m., officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Upland Drive in Independence Township, Nov. 11.
The caller reported seeing flames at the rear of the vehicle but no one around the vehicle. Upon arrival, the rear of the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
A witness told deputies that prior to the vehicle catching fire, there was a bottle burning on the back of the vehicle.
The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the fire and suffered extensive damage.
An evidence technician processed a bottle suspected of containing an accelerant, which was recovered from the scene and subsequently secured as evidence. A detective was notified and responded to the scene.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigations Unit was notified and will be continuing the investigation.
The vehicle was impounded and secured for processing.
Another incident is under investigation for arson.
It happened in the early morning of November 17 just before 7 a.m., officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the 6600 block of Dixie Highway for a business on fire.
An OCSO fire investigator was also driving through the area and stopped to assist. He then started an investigation into the fire, which appears to be arson.
