The preliminary exam for two accused bank robbers was postponed until Aug. 29 and Sept. 1 at the 52-2 District in Clarkston in front of Judge Dana Fortinberry. The exam was originally scheduled for Aug. 14.
Michael Wade Carter, 43, of Highland Township, is accused of holding up the Comerica Bank location inside the Kroger supermarket on Dixie Highway while the couple’s four children, aged 7-12, waited in a vehicle with wife Aretha Deanna Carter, 31.
The pair were arraigned Aug. 1 and face three counts each of armed robbery, bank robbery and attempted armed robbery. The Carters have no prior criminal history, but police said the duo does have a history of drug use.
At 3 p.m. on Aug. 29, there will be the preliminary exam and on Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. witnesses will be interviewed.
According to police reports, at nearly 4 p.m. on July 28, Michael Carter allegedly entered the Comerica location at 6625 Dixie Highway and handed the manager a note announcing the holdup and implied that he had a gun. A guest inside the bank called 911 and gave Carter’s description to the police, who alerted officers over the radio system.
The pair supposedly made away with more than $3,000 cash in the July 28 robbery, but were stopped by Clarkston Police Chief Ernest Combs.
The Carters face similar charges in 51st District Court in Waterford Township. Police found evidence linking the couple to not only the Comerica robbery, but also a theft at the Flagstar Bank at Crescent Lake Road and M-59 in the township that occurred July 26.
