The Wolves finished a lap in the 3,200-meter relay race in their first track and field meet of the season last Thursday as lightning was spotted just west of the Clarkston High School stadium.
The weather postponed the first meet against Rochester to a later date to be announced. Clarkston now prepares for their season opener to be at Rochester Adams on Wednesday against the Highlanders.
Clarkston Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Breen said for this year’s team there are a lot of freshmen and sophomores, especially for the sprint events.

“Wednesday will be a learning experience,” Breen added. “We will see where we are at. We have, I will say this, probably one of the largest freshmen classes we have had. We lost a lot of the senior class. Some ended up not coming on this year. I think it’s really going to be at least a year of building before we feel like we have athletes in events they are going to be good in. If there was any year that was a rebuilding year, it would be this year.”
For distance events, some cross country runners will compete including Alex Brigham and Maddie Drennan.
“Maddie is a solid senior,” Breen said, adding some of the cross country athletes chose to compete with other spring sports. “We will see what the athletes can do.
One thing is for certain – Breen said the athletes are excited to have a spring season after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-pandemic.
The first event on Wednesday at Rochester Adams starts at 4:30 p.m.
The Wolves host Oxford on Wednesday, April 21.
