What’s so great about Orion?
Is it the trails? Downtown? A park? A shop?
Maybe it’s high school sports or a very special person.
Whatever your favorite thing about Orion is, Orion Neighborhood Television (ONTV) wants to know. And sharing could mean a big prize and a spot on AdvantageOrion.com, OrionONTV.org and ONTV channels.
ONTV is hosting a video contest, themed What I Love About Orion.
‘The reason we’re doing it is to help build a sense of community and create connections between people, and to show people how nice it is to live in Lake Orion. Maybe you know something about Orion that someone else doesn’t know,? said Diane Griffiths, ONTV executive director.
Not a video buff? That’s no problem, says Griffiths.
‘With everybody having video cameras and editing software on their computers, people don’t have to come in here to create their video, but we are offering assistance, too. If someone has an idea and they’re not quite sure how to do it, we’re happy to help them,? she said, noting a montage of photos and music work just fine, too.
This is a contest for your eight-year-old and your grandma, said ONTV Outreach Coordinator Molly Perry. There’s no age limit for contest entrants and videos can be about anything.
She hopes the contest will help bring together people who share the same interests but wouldn’t otherwise know it.
‘These (posted) videos could very well connect two high school kids who maybe wouldn’t speak, but found out that they did videos about something they both love. Or two neighbors who didn’t really know each other each did a video about the Bark Park. Maybe someday they’ll take their dog there together,? she said.
Videos will be judged by an independent panel. Grand prize is a 36-inch flat screen TV, second place is a blue ray DVD player, and third place is an mp3 player. But even if the video isn’t a winner, it could still end up on Advantage Orion, says Griffiths.
Videos should be three minutes in length or less. Deadline for submission is Dec. 30. For full contest details and entry forms, go to www.OrionONTV.org or visit ONTV at 698 S. Lapeer Road in Lake Orion.
