The Dragons never let divisional rival Stoney Creek get close, winning in straight sets, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14, on Jan. 26.
The crowd had barely taken their seats from the national anthem when the first set was nearly completed. Lake Orion had eight aces in that first frame to set the tone.
Kristin Larsen took over in the second. With the Dragons leading 5-4, Larsen won eight straight service points, including five that went unreturned to keep the LO rout going.
When the smoke finally cleared at the end of the night, Larsen tallied 12 aces and 11 kills.
That win set up a big OAA II match for the Dragons at league unbeaten Farmington Hills Harrison on Jan. 30.
LO got of to a great start winning the first set 25-17, but Harrison showed why they have won 37 consecutive league matches, rallying to win the next three tightly contested sets (25-16, 25-21 and 25-22).
The win puts Harrison in great position to capture their fourth OAA II crown in as many years.
The Dragons were led by Larsen’s 18 kills and Sarah Brown’s 25 assists as they fell to 6-2 in league play, with both losses coming at the hands of Harrison.
LO is 14-10-3 overall and will resume league play at home against North Farmington on Feb. 2.
