Like mother, like son.
At least, that is how it seems in Goodrich track.
Nick Sweet tore up the track during the track and field regional meet on Tuesday, May 19. Sweet sprinted past the standing boys? 100-meter dash record with a time of 10.72 seconds.
When his name goes on the record board, it will be set next to his mother’s, Jenny (Guelde) Sweet, who still holds the girls? 100-meter dash record of 12.1 seconds, standing after 21 years.
‘I’m going to be taking a lot of pictures of that record board,? Jenny said.
Before Tuesday’s race, Nick had no idea he was going to break the record, he said.
His mother did.
Jenny said she had timed her son during preliminaries at 10.8 seconds, which made him tied with the record from Kip Owen, set in 1988.
‘I thought maybe my thumb was quick on the stopwatch,? she said. ‘I didn’t want to say anything to him.?
After Nick’s record-breaking run, his mother did not hide her emotions.
‘She freaked out, I’m not going to lie,? Nick said.
Jenny does not deny it.
‘I was just glad I had my sunglasses on because I started crying,? she said.
Nick claimed he has no future plans to dash any more records, but his mother has different ideas.
‘Next year, he’ll go after the 200- meter record,? she said.
