25 years ago – 1997
Clarkston dancer kicks up her heels with Rockettes: Denise Caston, a junior at Oakland University and lifelong resident of Clarkston, was one of six local women selected to join the Radio City Rockettes for a month-long Christmas Spectacular at the Fox Theatre.
The spirit of giving: Third-graders at Clarkston and Andersonville elementaries worked hard to collect food for the needy for Thanksgiving. The students at Clarkston took charge of a all-school effort to collect non-perishable items for Lighthouse Clarkston. Students at Andersonville also collected for Lighthouse but decided to challenge the whole school as a way to boost the effort.
Icers open season with win: The Clarkston Hockey team won its season opener against Waterford Kettering, 5-2, two minutes at a time. The Wolves overcame 38 minutes in penalties and three 5-on-3 situations.

50 years ago – 1972
Operation Red Ball – lifesaving: Operation Red Ball, a new safety program to identify children’s or those who need help bedrooms in case of fire, was launched in the Independence Township area. The Red Ball was a sticker placed in bedroom windows and were provided for free as a public service by Clarkston Jaycees and the American Red Ball Transit Co.
New Eagles: Michael Fahrner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fahrner, was awarded Eagle honors by Boy Scout Troop 126 at Clarkston United Methodist Church. Rick Gunter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Guntner, also received his Eagle award.
Around the township: Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Butters of Church Street spent the holiday weekend in St. Charles, Illinois with their son, Spence and his family. The four grandchildren were delighted to have grandpa and grandma there for the day.

75 years ago – 1947
Club gets ready for Christmas: The Clarkston Service Mothers Club met at the home of Mrs. Paul Henry on Orion Road. There was a potluck luncheon. Then, at the business meeting it was decided to mail Christmas cards to all the boys in the service from this district.
The Hilltopper: Fifth grade students made booklets of Thanksgiving poems. Some they copied from other books and some they wrote themselves.
Clarkston locals: Mrs. Myra Wieland spent Thanksgiving with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kitchen in Detroit.
