ROCHESTER HILLS — Clarkston High School Boys and Girls Track and Field teams took third place at the OAA Red-White Championships at Rochester Adams on Friday.
The boys team finished in third place with 87 points with two relay teams and one individual claiming league titles.
The 1,600-meter relay team with senior Bryce Nowik, junior Micah Chaney, junior Gabe Van Goor and freshman Wendell Childs finished as league champion with a first place finish in the time of 3:24.41.
The 3,200-meter relay team with Nowik, Childs, senior Andrew Floros and sophomore Ryan Barnes finished in first place in the time of 7:54.09.
Childs also finished in first place in the 400-meter dash in the time of 49.95.
Student-athletes finishing in the top eight in the track events were: in the 100-yard dash, Chaney in third place in the time of 11.04; 400-meter dash, Van Goor, fifth, 51.91; 800-meter run, junior Joshua Ellingsworth, fourth, 1:59.49; 1,600-meter run, Floros, 4:25.72; 3,200-meter run, Barnes, fourth, 9:43.34; and 110-meter hurdles, freshman Malachi Switzer, seventh, 16.81.
Finishing in the top eight in field events were: in shot put, senior Nick Waszczenko in second place, 46-02; junior Benjamin Ankrom, eighth, 41-01; and discus, Waszczenko, eighth, 123-11.
The 800-meter relay team with Van Goor, Chaney, junior Rence Leon-Fountain and sophomore Mason Sidaway finished in second place, 1:30.37.
The 400-meter relay team with Leon-Fountain, Sidaway, Chaney and sophomore Cameron Love finished in third place, 43.61.
Rochester Adams finished the meet in first place with 125 points; Troy, second, 88; Troy Athens, fourth, 68; Lake Orion, fifth, 56; Rochester, sixth, 54; Royal Oak, seventh, 49; Bloomfield Hills, eighth, 41; Oxford, ninth, 21; Stoney Creek, tenth, 19; and Avondale, 11th, 16.
The girls team finished in third place with 83 points.
Freshman Allison Thurman finished as league champion in the 100-meter wheelchair event, taking first place in the time of 37.81; and the 200-meter wheelchair, 1:39.84.
Student-athletes finishing in the top eight in the track events were: in the 100-meter dash, junior Scarlett Keenan in seventh place in the time of 13.31; 200-meter dash, sophomore Skylar Drinkard, third, 26.94; 800-meter run, senior Alexandra Brigham, eighth, 2:27.21; 1,600-meter run, Brigham, fifth, 5:15.37; 3,200-meter run, freshman Addison Brigham, third, 12:07.44; 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Caitlin Poterek, third, 15.85; senior Sammie Carpentier, seventh, 16.78; 300-meter hurdles, junior Keira Zorski, second, 47.59; Poterek, fourth, 47.96; and senior Emily Valencia, sixth, 49.64.
Finishing in the top eight in the field events were: in shot put, senior Abby Hasenfratz in fourth place, 32-04; freshman Aydia Bartz, seventh, 30-07; discus, Hasenfratz, fifth, 99-10; senior Allie Danatzko, eighth, 93-05; high jump, junior Carsey Collins, sixth, 4-09; and long jump, junior Lauren Williams, seventh, 15-0.25.
The 400-meter relay team with Drinkard, Keenan, senior Cassandra King and sophomore Emma Garner finished in second place in the time of 50.54.
The 800-meter relay team with Keenan, Zorski, Poterek and Drinkard finished in third place, 1:47.26. The 1,600-meter relay team with Poterek, Zorski, Valencia and Drinkard also finished in third, 4:05.35.
Rochester finished the OAA Red-White Championship meet in first place with 116.5 points; Lake Orion, second, 106; Rochester Adams, fourth, 62; Troy, fifth, 52.5; Oxford, sixth, 50; Troy Athens, seventh, 44; Royal Oak, eighth, 38; Stoney Creek, ninth, 36; Bloomfield Hills, tenth, 34; and Avondale, 11th, two points.
The Wolves head to the Bill Breen JV Relays at Troy High School today, Wednesday, May 15.
They compete in the MHSAA Division 1 Track and Field Region 9 at Milford High School on Friday. Field events start at 1 p.m. with pole vault. Track events begin at 4 p.m. with the 3,200-meter relay event. – Compiled by Wendi Reardon Price
