CLARKSTON — At its meeting on Dec. 9, the Clarkston City Council voted 6-0 to extend the contract between the city and Angela Guillen while the city evaluates the possibility of hiring Guillen permanently.
Guillen has been working as the city clerk contractually since mid-October.
The approved contract would be for $40 an hour and extend from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 for a total not to exceed contract amount of $10,200.
According to city Manager Jonathan Smith, the funding for this contract would come from the clerk salary budget.
“Evelyn (Bihl) is working as the Deputy Clerk. She continues on, in fact now that the election is over she’s back to her normal cadence of two days a week – about 20 hours a week,” Smith said. “Angela’s (Guillen) will likely come from the clerk pay line on the budget. We have a contractual services line, I believe we were using that during the election but now that the election is over, the plan will be to use the clerk salary, which is just sitting there not being used, to basically pay Angela.”
Smith went on to explain that his ultimate goal is to hire Guillen as a permanent clerk for the city and her wages would continue to come from the clerk budget.
Guillen’s hiring is contingent on further discussion from the city’s finance committee after a salary study has been completed.
