2,000 lose power Tuesday

Approximately 2,000 Oxford residents found themselves without power at 10:15 a.m. yesterday (August 31), once again thanks to Mother Nature.
According to Scott Simmon, a representative with DTE Energy, the power outage was the result of a bird hitting a lightning arrester in the company’s Oxford substation. Those customers bordering Granger, Baldwin, Lincoln and Drahner roads, including Clear Lake Elementary and Oxford Fire Station #2, were without power until around 11:30 a.m.
‘Everybody is back up and running now,? said Simmon around 1:30 p.m. ‘It was something easy to repair.?
Clear Lake Elementary did not close for the day, but afternoon kindergarten was cancelled. Thanks to the nice weather, students were able to remain in school and were provided bottled water by the district until power was restored.
